MATT WHITE: DESIGN IN ITS PUREST FORM

MATT WHITE: DESIGN IN ITS PUREST FORM

A year on from the launch of a new product colour and finish, VOLA have released photography, product footage and an article looking at the emphatic purity of matt white in a new light. The latest release is showcased within a unique and rich textured design scheme, created by architect Benoit Viaene. The incredible project, located deep within the Belgium countryside, provided the perfect atmospheric backdrop for the beautifully tactile finish.

THE ARTICLE
The new article has been released on VOLA’s architecture and design focused web-based platform ‘On design’ VOLA have explored how the use of design, with form and texture, can be used to create atmosphere, sensation and the sense of wellness within a design scheme. Only by considering these touchpoints from the offset, can a designer truly shape a whole space, transforming an interior into a seamless experience that emphasises seemingly small, everyday interactions to create a more satisfying whole.
The article explores this idea further with the use of natural materials and how they are used to connect us back to nature and engage us with our surroundings, transforming the intangible feelings of atmosphere and sensation into emotional responses.

THE MATT WHITE FINISH
Inspired by the delicate tactile forms found in nature, like eggshells or a perfectly honed pebble, matt white is truly a pure finish. The finish is available across the whole VOLA product range and provides architects and designers with a range of options to specify projects holistically, pairing both colour and texture with any creative design scheme.

HISTORY OF COLOUR WITHIN THE VOLA RANGE

In 1968, just over five decades ago, the very first prototypes developed by Arne Jacobsen started life in just two colours, grey and orange. Soon after, all VOLA products were available in a range of ten colours, simply numbers 01-10. Not only was VOLA the original creator of the modern tap but they were the first to introduce a full spectrum of colour to tapware and bathroom design. Arne Jacobsen’s goal was totality. As an architect, he wanted a holistic overview of a project. Leaving nothing to chance Jacobsen designed every detail of his buildings from cutlery to taps. Originally Jacobsen had wanted to create the first tap from concrete; from this early design concept the VOLA grey finish was born. Today’s collection of timeless finishes and bold colours are still firmly led by the geometric forms and principals of the brand’s founders.

VOLA take great pride in the flexibility of their manufacturing which allows for ‘extreme personalisation’ – their colour and production approach is unparalleled. Across the entire VOLA range, every product configuration, of which there are approximately 100,000 possible combinations, is available in each of the 28 finishes. This allows anyone to specify any product configuration in any finish. Every product is made to order, and no stock is held, despite regular practice in today’s world of mass production. Better still, since VOLA have never changed any colour, products deliver greater longevity, with products that were used in schemes in the 1970s still being updated and refurbished today. This commitment to sustainable, beautiful and modular design is the foundation of the VOLA approach.
